Six years ago, I was in the market for a new primary care doctor. I wasn’t pleased with the doctor who was treating me; medicine was being pushed on me without really listening to my concerns as the patient. Luckily, I found “Dr. Shaheed” as I affectionately call him, and have been with him ever since, even following him to his new practice, Family Medicine Healthcare.
I started seeing Dr. Abdelshaheed simply for regular checkups. I had no idea at that point what he would help me through. Five years ago, my loving husband of 46 years became ill and passed away. I was his caretaker and he was my best friend. I was grief stricken and rundown beyond words. It was like my body just shut down. I was admitted to the hospital, and Dr. Abdelshaeed treated me there. If it hadn’t been for him and his daily care, I don’t know if I would have survived.
Now, you should know, I am a fighter – always have been. But my spirit was broken and my strength was gone. I put my care completely in Dr. Abdelshaheed’s hands, as I couldn’t make any decisions at that point. I didn’t care, I couldn’t care. He took care of me just like I was his mother, just like family.
I was in the hospital for 3 weeks, and then moved into a nursing facility for 2 more weeks. He followed me everywhere I went and continued treating me at each facility. I am happy to say that I am well and healthy today. It was a long journey, but with the help of Dr. Abdelshaheed and his caring staff, I regained my strength and health. I am even able to work in the cafeteria of one of our local schools. The children keep me active and on my toes! My son tells me all the time, “Mama, you better slow down”! And I just keep telling him, if I slow down, I know that will be it for me. I am just not ready for that yet. Dr. Abdelshaheed helps me to keep living life, even at my age!
Everyone at Family Medicine Healthcare cares for the patient as a whole person, not just the specific ailment or problem. I absolutely love that! Graisse, the office manager, even helped me navigate through a Worker’s Compensation claim due to an accident I had on my previous job. In my 77 years of life, I have never been to a doctor’s office where the staff and doctor are as friendly and caring as at Family Medicine Healthcare.
For those of you who are unsatisfied with your current medical care, don’t waste any more of your time. Make an appointment with the doctor who will make you laugh, give you a big hug, listen to your concerns, will truly care, and will use his years of wisdom and medical experience to treat you just like a family member.
